Advice

Are Dealer Boots Waterproof?

Some dealer boots are waterproof, but not every pair is. Waterproof dealer boots include a membrane or lining designed to stop water from entering. Standard leather dealer boots may resist light rain and splashes, but they are not necessarily fully waterproof.

Always check the individual product specification before buying.

ARE LEATHER DEALER BOOTS WATERPROOF?

Leather naturally provides some water resistance, especially when it has been waxed or treated. This may be suitable for light rain, damp grass and occasional splashes.

During longer periods in wet weather, water may eventually enter through the leather, stitching or elasticated side panels. A leather boot should only be treated as waterproof when this is clearly stated on the product page.

WATERPROOF VS WATER-RESISTANT DEALER BOOTS

Water-resistant dealer boots can provide protection during short periods of light rain or exposure to damp ground. They may not keep your feet dry during prolonged wet weather.

Waterproof dealer boots normally include a waterproof membrane or lining as part of their construction. This provides a higher level of protection when working regularly in rain, mud and wet outdoor conditions.

Applying a suitable treatment can improve the water resistance of leather, but it cannot turn a non-waterproof boot into a fully waterproof boot.

WHICH XPERT DEALER BOOT IS WATERPROOF?

The Xpert PRO Forge Waterproof S7L Safety Dealer Boot is specifically designed for wet working conditions.

It features a water-resistant leather upper and a waterproof, breathable DRY X™ membrane to help keep feet dry. The Forge also includes a composite toe cap and protective midsole for demanding working environments.

Other Xpert dealer boots offer durable leather uppers for general outdoor work, but they should not be described as waterproof unless this is confirmed in the individual product specification.

CAN DEALER BOOTS BE WORN IN HEAVY RAIN?

Waterproof dealer boots can be worn in heavy rain and wet working conditions. However, their pull-on design means water can still enter over the top of the boot.

Dealer boots are best suited to wet ground, mud, rain and shallow puddles. If you regularly work in standing water or deep mud, a taller pair of wellingtons may provide better protection.

HOW SHOULD LEATHER DEALER BOOTS BE CARED FOR?

Regular care helps protect the leather and can extend the life of your boots.

  • Remove mud and dirt after use
  • Allow wet boots to dry naturally
  • Keep boots away from radiators and direct heat
  • Apply a suitable leather conditioner or proofing product
  • Follow the care instructions provided with the boots

Proofing products can improve the water resistance of the leather upper, but they will not add a waterproof membrane to a boot that does not already have one.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT DEALER BOOTS

For general work, everyday wear and occasional exposure to rain, a quality leather dealer boot may provide the protection you need.

For regular outdoor work in wet conditions, choose a dealer boot that is specifically described as waterproof. If you work in deep water or heavy mud, consider a pair of wellingtons instead.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Are Xpert dealer boots waterproof?

Not every Xpert dealer boot is waterproof. The Xpert PRO Forge is specifically described as a waterproof safety dealer boot. Check the individual product description before purchasing.

Can leather dealer boots be worn in the rain?

Leather dealer boots can generally handle light rain and occasional splashes, particularly when properly maintained. For prolonged wet conditions, choose a boot with a waterproof membrane.

Can I make dealer boots waterproof?

A leather proofing treatment can improve water resistance, but it cannot make a non-waterproof boot fully waterproof.

Are dealer boots suitable for mud?

Yes. Dealer boots are suitable for muddy ground, but water and mud can enter over the top in deeper conditions. Wellingtons may be more suitable when working in deep mud or standing water.

How can I tell if dealer boots are waterproof?

Check the product specification for a waterproof membrane, lining or an explicit waterproof claim. Do not assume that every leather boot is fully waterproof.
